Beta realm restarts for stability

No new build: Blizzard restarts the beta realms to fix server issues.

Servers

1 change
  • Blizzard acknowledged server issues that affected some testers that day.
  • The beta realms were shut down and restarted to apply stability fixes; the downtime was announced as very short.
  • No new client build: the fix was server-side, on build 70009.

AnnouncementAnnounced by Blizzard

Character name enforcement

Forced name changes and removed beta access for names that break the rules.

Character names

3 changes
  • Blizzard forces a name change on beta characters whose name breaks the naming policy.
  • Some accounts lost beta access over names judged to be seriously against the code of conduct. The development team decides case by case, and customer support does not handle appeals.
  • An automatic name check is coming very soon; Blizzard asks players not to try to test it.

Patch notesAnnounced by Blizzard

Weekly update, 24 September

The first full weekly update: tuning for every class, races, the Cooldown Manager, gamepad, items, quests and interface.

Key changes

  • Wrath gains about 50% base damage; Mangle becomes Primal Bite.
  • Holy Strike hits harder at every rank and has a 10 sec cooldown; Improved Holy Strike is gone.
  • Eureka! drops to a 10% cost reduction for every class.
  • Wands no longer benefit from spell power.
  • The Cooldown Manager enters testing for five classes.

Maintenance

  • The beta went down in the early afternoon, California time, to deploy the new build; Blizzard planned at least two hours of downtime.
  • The development notes and the known issues list went up when the beta reopened. They give no build number: 70009, released between the maintenance notice and the notes, is the only candidate.

General fixes

12 changes

  • 1
  • 1
  • 9
  • Casters play their precast animation again and no longer stand up while casting.
  • A new sound when jumping into water, and reworked human death sounds.
  • Campfire: crafting or casting while you wait for the buff no longer makes you stand up or resets the wait.
  • Campfire: you also get the buff sitting on the ground or on a chair, asleep, lying down or kneeling.
  • A non-player character's legs (Huey Sunnydale) render again.
  • A Season of Discovery rune ability is no longer visible by mistake.
  • Pet happiness decreases again once loyalty is maxed.
  • The Undercity canal ooze no longer glows far too brightly.
  • Removed a setting that could turn off fog unexpectedly.

  • Fixed a memory leak that slowly degraded performance for some players.
  • Mail: surnames (second names) are no longer ignored.

Classes: shared rule

1 change
  • Resetting your talents costs 1 silver if you have not done it recently. This price is beta-only.
  • Right after a reset, the next one costs much more, then the price drops back to 1 silver after an hour.

Warrior

4 changes
  • Sunder Armor: threat values corrected at every rank, with a small increase to threat from attack power.

  • Arms: Bloodthrill's chance rises to 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 20% (was 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10%) and now only triggers on main-hand attacks, Cleave and Heroic Strike included.

Cooldown Manager

1 change
  • This tool takes the key information from the buff bar or the action bars and places it wherever you want on screen.
  • It is off by default and can be turned on in the options, under the gameplay enhancements.
  • Testable for now with the Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock; the other classes will follow.
  • Blizzard mostly wants to know which spells should be tracked by default.
  • Spell ranks are not supported yet; this will be fixed in a future beta update.

  • The pet bar no longer replaces the bottom action bar for Hunters and Warlocks.

  • Several quest rewards get their correct item level back; a few early caster rewards were adjusted.
  • Wizard oils: back to their Classic values, 8 spell power for the minor oil, 16 for the lesser and 24 for Wizard Oil. Brilliant Wizard Oil is unchanged.
  • Wands: they no longer benefit at all from their wielder's spell power.

  • Elwynn Forest: you can learn Skinning from Helene Peltskinner even with one of her quests in progress.

Interface

2 changes
  • A new selection display on nameplates.
  • Updated Personal Resource Display textures.

Known issues introduced by this build

  • Cooldown Manager: Banes and Curses are tracked wrongly if you drop your target and come back to one already affected.
  • Cooldown Manager: Healthstone, Arcane Blast, pet cooldowns and weapon enhancements (Windfury, poisons) cannot be tracked.
  • Cooldown Manager: the Priest tracks every spell by default; the Mage's mana gem is only tracked after another spell is cast.
  • Creating or changing a group can move you to another world instance; Blizzard is working on it.
  • The Stormwind minimap displays badly; a fix is planned for a later build.
  • The Personal Resource Display does not show combo points.

Resolved issues

2 changes
  • Teldrassil: during Escaping Ban'ethil, the sentinel escorting you no longer runs too fast or overuses her attack.
  • Loch Modan: Snowbound no longer gives too much experience.
