Holy Paladin — guide and builds

The WoW Forever Holy Paladin is a self-sufficient healer that levels easily, and Light’s Vigil finally gives it a group heal through Holy Shock.

Class: PaladinData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Overview

The Holy Paladin keeps its role as a plate-wearing healer, with new tools. Light's Vigil, the final talent, goes on an ally for 30 sec: your next Holy Shock on them triggers no cooldown and also heals their group. On an enemy, it deals Holy damage and refunds 75% of the Vigil’s cost. Only one Vigil per Paladin and per group.

Voice of Truth, a new talent, makes you immune to silence and interrupts for 6 sec. Holy Strike gives you one more damage button while leveling. The core of the spec stays simple, but you have many blessings, seals and auras to master.

At level 20 in the beta, the Holy Paladin sits in A tier among healers, mostly thanks to Retribution Aura, which plays the same role as the Druid’s Thorns.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Smooth leveling
Very smooth for a healer: you heal, you take hits, you hit back.
  • Solid defenses
Strong defensive abilities to get out of trouble.
  • Retribution Aura
Thorns-style damage for the whole group.

Weaknesses

  • Holy Light
Too expensive and too slow at low level.
  • Early tree
The first Holy talents do little for solo play.
Read the details

You level solo without trouble: you heal, you take hits and you deal decent damage. Your defensive abilities get you out of tight spots, and Retribution Aura adds damage to your whole group.

On the other hand, Holy Light is expensive and slow to cast before level 20. The first Holy talents bring little to solo questing.

Rotation and priorities

Before the fight: Devotion Aura, or Retribution Aura as soon as you have it, always active. Blessing of Might on yourself and your group.

Leveling damage:

  1. Keep Seal of Righteousness active.
  2. Judgement on cooldown.
  3. Holy Strike on cooldown.
  4. Consecration when it is useful.

Healing:

  1. Priority 1: Retribution Aura
Always active; Devotion Aura until you have it.
    When: Before the fight
  2. Priority 2: Blessing of Might
    On yourself and your group.
    When: Before the fight
  3. Priority 3: Flash of Light
Your main heal at level 20.
  4. Priority 4: Holy Light
It heals a lot but costs a lot.
    When: Heavy damage
  5. Priority 5: Judgement
Judge Seal of Light to help the group’s healing.
    When: On a boss
  6. Priority 6: Seal of Wisdom
Keep it active for your own mana.
    When: After that Judgement

Your Judgement and your seal can differ. On a boss, judge Seal of Light to help the group’s healing, then switch to Seal of Wisdom for your own mana. On a long leveling fight, judge Seal of the Crusader, then switch to Seal of Righteousness.

Stats

  1. 1Healing power
  2. then 2Intellect
  3. then 3Spirit
  4. then 4Mana per 5 sec
2 Intellect
only mana and spell crit

Order to be confirmed: the exact priority is not settled yet.

Intellect only gives you mana and spell crit: look first for pieces with bonus healing, then Intellect, Spirit and mana per 5 sec. The exact order is still to be confirmed.

Leveling

At level 20: Divine Intellect 5/5, Healing Light 3/3, Improved Seals 2/3 and one point in Reverence. With 2 Legacy points, the maximum in the beta at level 20, finish Reverence for the mana.

Until level 20, your only heal is Holy Light: play mostly for damage and heal between fights. Always keep an aura up. Gear advice for Holy is still thin: this part of the guide is a work in progress.

Changes compared to Classic

  • New final talent, a group heal through Holy Shock.
  • New instant attack, 40% weapon damage plus Holy damage.
  • New talent, 6 sec of immunity to silence and interrupts.
  • Blessings
One hour instead of 5 min.
  • No longer consumes the seal.
  • No longer interrupts your mana regeneration.
