Elemental Shaman — guide and builds

The WoW Forever Elemental Shaman gets Lightning Overload and Lava Burst back and crushes packs with Fire Nova, but stays weak on a single target and hard to level before the late 30s.

Class: ShamanData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Overview

Elemental changes little in WoW Forever: mostly comfort, and the return of two favorites. Lightning Overload is back, with low proc chances: 3, 6 then 10% to cast a second copy of Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning for half its damage. Lava Burst deals 20% more damage if Flame Shock is on the target, with no guaranteed critical strike.

Your single-target damage still lacks punch, but your area damage is huge thanks to Fire Nova. Careful: its threat can pull mobs off your tank. Water Shield helps a lot in dungeons.

Leveling is harder than in Classic: base spell damage went down, and no talent shortens your cast times early, since Elemental Alacrity comes late. Play as a melee hybrid until levels 38 to 40, then respec for Elemental Alacrity and Lava Burst. Mindfulness, in Restoration, might solve your mana at max level. The spec shares the class’s tier A at level 20 on the beta.

Read the details

Your area damage is among the strongest in the game at low level, your playstyle stays simple, and you can help with healing.

On the other hand, single targets still hold out against you, leveling is a struggle before the late 30s, and you need spell power gear.

Rotation and priorities

Single target:

  1. Priority 1: Strength of Earth Totem
    Drop it for the group.
  2. Priority 2: Lightning Bolt
If you insist on casting; otherwise, alternate your shocks.
  3. Priority 3: Flame Shock
    Alternating with Earth Shock.
  4. Priority 4: Attack
Your melee swings, to save mana.

Several targets: drop Searing Totem, then cast Fire Nova on every cooldown until you run out of mana.

Without spell power, rank 3 Lightning Bolt deals less damage per second than rank 2: keep rank 2 at low level.

Stats

  1. 1Spell power
  2. then 2Haste
  3. then 3Intellect
2 Haste
Often strong for Elemental.

Order to be confirmed: the exact priority is not settled yet.

No list is established. Aim for spell power, haste, often strong for Elemental, and Intellect. The order is still to be confirmed.

Leveling

At level 20, no points in Elemental: everything goes into Restoration. Improved Healing Wave 5/5, Mindfulness 3/3, Tidal Focus 2/5 and Water Shield. At this level, an Elemental-leaning Shaman heals almost as well as a healer with this build. With Legacy points, put them into Elemental: Concussion, Call of Flame and Elemental Focus. The exact ranks are still to be confirmed.

At low level, fight in melee with Rockbiter Weapon on a slow two-handed weapon. Drop a Fire totem and cast Fire Nova as soon as it is ready. Between fights, stop casting for 5 s to regain mana. Hall of Thanes and the Deadmines have gear for you.
