Browsing and security

Like any website, the server that hosts ForeverGuide receives technical data on each visit: IP address, date and time, requested page, browser type. It is used to run the site, protect it against abuse and fix errors.

• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing a safe, working site.
• Retention: a limited period, specific to the hosting's technical logs.

Audience measurement

With your consent, we use Microsoft Clarity, a Microsoft service, to understand how the site is used and where to improve it. It is our only audience measurement tool. Clarity records page views, clicks, scrolling and pointer movements, and turns them into:

• heatmaps: where visitors click and how far they scroll down a page;
• session recordings: a replay of a visit, like a video, to spot what gets in the way.

Sensitive data is masked in your browser before anything is sent: the content of input fields, email addresses and numbers (Clarity's default setting, which we keep). Clarity also receives technical information such as your device type, browser and screen size.

• Legal basis: your consent. Clarity only loads after you agree, never before. You can withdraw your consent at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page: Clarity stops and its cookies are deleted.
• Cookies: _clck (random visitor ID, 1 year) and _clsk (links the pages of one visit, 1 day), only set with your consent. Clarity may also read or set Microsoft cookies on its own domains (such as MUID or CLID), also only after you agree. The consent signal we send to Clarity refuses advertising storage.
• Recipient: Microsoft, which provides the service and hosts its data.
• Retention: 30 days for session recordings, up to 9 months for heatmaps, statistics and the recordings we mark (periods set by Microsoft).

Voluntary contributions

If you support the project with a contribution, the payment is handled by a specialised payment provider. We never see your bank details. We only receive what is needed to track the contribution (for example your name or nickname, your email address and the amount).

• Legal basis: carrying out your contribution and our legal obligations.
• Retention: for the period required by applicable law.

Messages

If you write to us, we only use your address and message to reply to you.

• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.
• Retention: as long as needed to handle your request.

Data that stays on your device

Some information is kept in your browser's local storage and is never sent to us: your cookie choice, the builds you save in the calculator, the name generator's history, and when you hid the support banner (key fg.tipbar), so it stays hidden for 30 days. Your language is kept by a necessary cookie, NEXT_LOCALE, for the length of your browsing session. You can delete it at any time from your browser settings.

We use cookies and similar technologies (your browser's local storage) of two kinds:

• Necessary: they make the site work and remember your preferences (language, saved builds, cookie choices). They do not require consent.
• Audience measurement: the Microsoft Clarity cookies described above. They are only set with your consent.

You choose on your first visit: “Accept all”, “Reject all” or “Customise”. Your choice is kept in your browser for 13 months (key fg.consent), then we ask again. You can change your mind at any time from the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page, or with this button. You can also delete cookies from your browser settings. Refusing audience measurement does not stop you from using the site.

Your data is never sold or rented. It is processed by us and by the technical providers that help us run the site, each for its own role: hosting, audience measurement (Microsoft, for Microsoft Clarity), database, payment.

Some providers may be based outside the European Union, notably in the United States: this is the case of Microsoft for Clarity. These transfers rely on safeguards recognised by the GDPR: the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, in which Microsoft participates, and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data: encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access to administration tools, and collection limited to what is strictly necessary.

You can at any time ask to access, correct, delete or port your data, restrict or object to its processing, and withdraw your consent. Write to contact@foreverguide.eu.

You can also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country of residence.

We may update this page, for example when a tool changes. The version online is the one that applies.
