Frost Mage — guide and builds

WoW Forever Frost gets Ice Lance back and gains Fingers of Frost: Frostbolt sets up, Ice Lance strikes, in a simple loop that rewards quick reactions.

Class: MageData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Overview

Ice Lance returns in WoW Forever, close to its original version: it deals 300% extra damage to frozen targets. Fingers of Frost, a new talent, gives your Chill effects a chance to make your next spell act as if the target were frozen. Ice Lance and Shatter thus become useful against bosses.

The intended loop is simple: Frostbolt to trigger Fingers of Frost, then Ice Lance to spend them, an instant spell that also helps you move. The rotation stays simple and rewards quick reactions.

The slow on Blizzard was cut hard: Improved Blizzard goes down to 15, 25 and 40%, against 30, 50 and 65% in Classic. Large area farming sessions suffer from it. The tree was reshuffled: the hit talent costs 2 more points for 1% less hit, Shatter costs 3 points and Cold Snap sits deeper. Up to level 20, the three Mage specs are on par, all in tier S.

Leveling

At level 20: Elemental Precision 5/5, Ice Shards 5/5 and Ice Lance. Solo, you can take Frostbite and Permafrost instead of Ice Shards, or Wand Specialization in Arcane if you keep your wand up to date. With 5 Legacy points: Piercing Ice 3/3, one point in Frost Channeling, then Ice Block.

Read the scrolls you find while leveling to benefit from their bonuses. In dungeons, save your mana for large packs.

  • New talent, 15% chance on your Chill effects.
  • Slow reduced to 15, 25 and 40% for 1.5 s.
