Paladin — class guide

The WoW Forever Paladin gains Holy Strike, a tanking seal that taunts and one-hour blessings, and opens up to the Horde with the Undead.

Class: PaladinData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Specializations and tiers

Overview

The Paladin changes a lot in WoW Forever. Holy Strike, learned at level 6, is an instant attack that deals part of your weapon damage plus Holy damage based on your spell power, ignoring armor. Judgement no longer consumes your seal: keep a seal active and renew it when it expires.

Retribution Aura scales with your spell power, but does not update itself: recast it after changing gear.

The Horde finally has Paladins, with the Undead and their base, Bandarion Keep. At level 20 in the beta, the Paladin is seen as the strongest class; adjustments are expected, to be confirmed.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Three roles
    DPS, healer and tank.
  • Blessings and auras
One-hour blessings and resistance auras for the whole raid.
  • Emergency buttons
Lay on Hands, Divine Shield, Blessing of Protection.

Weaknesses

  • No interrupt
Still no ability to stop a spell cast.
  • Little crowd control
Hammer of Justice, Repentance as a talent, Turn Undead.
  • Tight mana
A small mana pool while leveling.

Roles

Retribution plays DPS (A tier), Holy heals (A tier) and Protection tanks: it sits in S tier among tanks at level 20.

The three specializations

Retribution. A rebuilt tree, with a real rotation around Holy Strike and Judgement, and Twist of Light to simplify seal play. Retribution guide

Holy. A self-sufficient healer that levels easily. Light's Vigil, the new final talent, turns Holy Shock into a group heal. Holy guide

Protection. Seal of Fury taunts the target of your Judgement, and Consecration holds packs of mobs. Protection guide

Key spells and talents

  • Human
The Alliance favorite. Sword Specialization grants 2% crit to spells as well as attacks, and Will to Survive breaks stuns.
  • Dwarf
Mace Specialization, Stoneform and Big Game Hunter, sometimes better depending on the situation.
  • Undead
The only Horde option. Cannibalize also restores mana.

As Retribution, Mining and Blacksmithing are the starting choice. As Holy, Engineering or Blacksmithing, paired with Mining for the ore. As Protection, Engineering grenades solve the lack of a ranged attack to pull mobs. The other professions grant a stat bonus whose value is still to be confirmed. At camp, the Mining bonus does not stack with Blessing of Might: take Blessing of Wisdom instead.

What is new compared to Classic

Redemption is learned through a quest chain at level 12. On the Alliance side, pick up the class weapon quest chain before your first visit to The Deadmines: it goes through there.
