Spec guide

Shadow Priest — guide and builds

WoW Forever Shadow becomes a real DPS spec: Shadow Weaving boosts your own damage, Shadowform is revised, and Shadow Word: Death adds an execute.

Class: PriestData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Overview

WoW Forever Shadow is reworked into a real raid DPS, rather than just a Shadow Weaving carrier in service of Warlocks. Shadow Weaving no longer places a debuff on the target: it only raises your own Shadow damage.

Shadowform changes too. It grants +10% Shadow damage (15% in Classic), halves the cost of your Shadow spells and doubles the bonus of your Shadow crits. Only healing spells are locked: your Holy damage and your utility spells stay available. The 15% physical damage reduction does not change.

Vampiric Embrace has a one-minute cooldown, lasts 30 sec, and killing an enemy affected by it triggers Spirit Tap. Shadow Word: Death, learned at level 32, forms a strong execute every 15 sec with Early Demise. Your mana economy gains several tools. The spec’s identity arrives late: Mind Flay at level 20, Shadowform at level 40. At level 20 in the beta, Shadow sits in B tier among DPS, with the other casters.

Read the details

You are strong in one-on-one PvP, you regenerate your mana with new tools, and Shadow Word: Death gives you an execute.

On the other hand, your raid spot is still uncertain, you cannot heal in Shadowform, and the spec lacks identity before level 40. Spirit Tap requires you to land the killing blow: agree on it with your group in dungeons.

Order to be confirmed: the exact priority is not settled yet.

Look for spell power, Intellect and Spirit. No order is established.

Leveling

At level 20: Wand Specialization 2/2, Spirit Tap 5/5, Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2/2 and Shadow Focus 2/5. For the last 2 points, Twilight Focus, Shadow Reach or Twin Disciplines are also fine. With Legacy points, go for Mind Flay and Improved Mind Flay 2/2, and raise Shadow Focus.

Land the killing blow to trigger Spirit Tap. Take the best wand at every step, respect the five-second rule when your mana runs low, and keep Fade at hand in a group.
