Affliction Warlock — guide and builds

WoW Forever Affliction finds its own playstyle: damage-over-time effects on every target, a Soul Siphon talent that empowers your drains, and Wrack as the final talent.

Class: WarlockData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Overview

WoW Forever Affliction has its own playstyle and is no longer a support tree for Shadow Bolt. Wrack, the new final talent, is a filler drain: it deals damage every second and raises the damage of your other Shadow effects on the target by 10%.

The Soul Siphon talent empowers your drains by 12% per other Affliction effect on the target, up to 36%: keep at least 3 effects on your main target. With your damage-over-time effects on every enemy, it is the best sustained cleave in the game. The spec shines in long fights against 2 or more targets, and suffers in short fights, for lack of burst.

Most of your damage-over-time effects follow your buffs and debuffs in real time, without locking in their value on cast: it is a good spec to learn how to juggle them. Haste seems to bring you nothing, since your damage-over-time effects and drains ignore it. At level 20, the spec plays almost as in Classic, damage-over-time effects and wand, in tier B among DPS.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Sustained cleave
Damage-over-time effects on every enemy make the best sustained cleave in the game.
  • Strong in long fights
The longer the fight, the bigger your lead.

Weaknesses

  • No burst
Nothing to hit hard all at once.
  • Weak in short fights
Without burst, they leave you far behind.
Read the details

You deal excellent sustained damage on several targets, and the longer the fight, the bigger your lead.

On the other hand, you have no burst, and short fights leave you far behind.

Rotation and priorities

Single target:

  1. Priority 1: Summon Succubus
    Send your Succubus in first.
  2. Priority 2: Bane of Agony
First: little upfront threat, and it needs time to ramp up.
  3. Priority 3: Corruption
    Next.
  4. Priority 4: Immolate
Last: its direct hit makes it the worst opener for threat.
  5. Priority 5: Shoot
    Your wand as filler.
    When: At level 20
  6. Priority 6: Drain Soul
Finish it: a mana window and shards with Soul Harvesting.
    When: Target nearly dead

Do not overwrite a damage-over-time effect that is still running, and do not put one on a mob about to die. Finish your targets with Drain Soul, which gives you a mana window and shards with Soul Harvesting.

On a boss: Curse of the Elements for a caster group, or Curse of Recklessness for a melee group, plus Bane of Agony.

Stats

  1. 1Spell power
  2. then 2Spell hit
  3. then 3Spell critical strike
2 Spell hit
Suppression covers 4 to 5% of it.
3 Spell critical strike
Your damage-over-time effects can crit.

Order to be confirmed: the exact priority is not settled yet.

Aim for spell power, then hit, of which Suppression covers 4 to 5%, and critical strike, since your damage-over-time effects can crit. Avoid haste. The exact order is still to be confirmed.

Leveling

At level 20, only 9 points are set: Improved Corruption 5/5 and Suppression 4/5. The other 2 depend on your playstyle: Improved Life Tap and Soul Harvesting for mana, Unholy Power, Demonic Embrace or Destructive Reach. With Legacy points: Suppression 5/5, Pandemic and Amplify Curse.

Sell your starting gear and food right away: you can buy Immolate at level 1. Buy the Lesser Magic Wand, then the Greater Magic Wand: cheap, and much stronger than before. Keep two Soul Shards for your summons, put a soulstone on your healer before pulls, and use Fear with care.
