Warlock — class guide

The WoW Forever Warlock splits Banes from Curses, sees its damage-over-time effects crit and fights alongside demons that scale with its own stats.

Class: WarlockData 1.60.1.70009By ForeverGuide team · updated Sep 26, 2026

Specializations and tiers

Overview

The Warlock’s damage-over-time effects can now crit, Rain of Fire included. The damage curses become Banes: Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom and Bane of Havoc. Each Warlock can put one Bane and one Curse on the same target. Curse of the Elements covers every school of magic, and Curse of Recklessness no longer raises the target’s damage.

Your demons scale with your stats, and the Stay command becomes Move To, with a ground marker. The Voidwalker holds threat well from level 10 thanks to a stronger Torment; the Imp gets weaker at low level. The Succubus, at level 20, is the highest-damage pet on the beta; the Incubus is the same pet, with its own quest.

Wands scale with about 30% of your spell power and fire without delay: at low level, they often match Shadow Bolt, for free. Drain Soul can create Soul Shards on every damage tick. Suppression gives hit to all your spells and lowers your threat: it is a key PvE talent. Haste affects neither your damage-over-time effects nor your channels. Trolls can now be Warlocks.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Critical damage over time
    Your damage-over-time effects can crit.
  • A Bane and a Curse
Each Warlock puts both on the same target.
  • Ritual of Summoning
The only travel shortcut: meeting stones no longer summon.

Weaknesses

  • Lots of wanding
In low-level dungeons, you spend a lot of time on your wand.
  • Costly Life Tap
For now it costs more health than stated, to be confirmed.

Roles

The Warlock plays DPS in all three specs. At level 20 on the beta, all three rank in tier B, carried by their damage-over-time effects but held back by the time spent wanding.

The three specializations

Affliction. Damage-over-time effects on every target and Wrack as the final talent: the best sustained cleave in the game, in long fights. Affliction guide

Demonology. Demonic Pact keeps your Demonic Sacrifice active with another demon. Very sturdy, very dependent on its pet. Demonology guide

Destruction. Fire, with Incinerate, Conflagrate and Shadowburn: burst and a simple rotation. Destruction guide

Key spells and talents

There is no wrong choice: pick the race you like.

  • Alliance
Gnome or Human. The Gnome has Eureka! and Expansive Mind; the Human, Sword Specialization.
  • Horde
Orc, Undead or Troll. The Orc’s Blood Fury gives spell power; Will of the Forsaken remains the best PvP racial; the Troll’s Berserking speeds up your casts, but not your damage-over-time effects.

Recipes are still provisional. Tailoring and Engineering look like the highest damage, with bombs and cloth embroidery. Tailoring and Enchanting let you disenchant your own crafts. Every profession now gives a passive bonus, and Skinning easily pays for your spell training.

What’s new compared to Classic

Your Voidwalker comes from a quest at level 10, your Succubus or Incubus at level 20.
